While we are on the discussion of colors - here is a comprehensive list of colors and their hex triplet. A hex triplet is a six-digit, three-byte hexadecimal number used in HTML, CSS, SVG, and other computing applications, to represent colors.
Now, besides and that fancy computer talk this color list has a whole bunch of great names that come in handy when you are trying to find good names to describe your Etsy listings!

Tues Tech Tool

This article came from Readers Digest and it talks about hiding your tracks online:

Just as your computer's browser maintains a history of the websites you visit, your Internet service provider (ISP) may keep an electronic log of the ones you peruse. Until recently, this was all just worthless data. But now some ISPs are considering selling these lists to companies that analyze them and then send targeted ads back to you. If you're bothered by this, there are three things you can do:

Go to vancouver.cs.washington and let the site automatically check whether your ISP is using monitoring devices.
Since this check is not comprehensive, call your ISP and ask if it's contemplating selling browsing data; if so, object.
Download a free software program called Tor from torproject.org, which will help block those prying ISP eyes.
Similarly, when you type a phrase into a search engine, you're broadcasting your interests and personal information. Like ISPs, some search companies routinely gather, store, and sell analyses of such data strings. That's why you should never search your full name and Social Security number or your name and password. Some other tips from the WPF:
Don't sign up for e-mail with your favorite search engine. This makes it easier to link you and your interests.
Use a variety of engines and computers for searching. This makes it more difficult to profile you.
Find out if your ISP uses a static IP address system, and if it does, periodically request a new IP address (essentially your computer's address).
Use software that masks your computer's address, like anonymizer.com, and anonymouse.org.

Holiday Previews for the Week

July 26 - All or Nothing Day - makes me want to sing a song like "it's now or never...". I suppose today is just a gamble, seeing as it's Sunday I may just pick nothing and relax!

July 26 - Aunt and Uncle Day - I remember when I was (ehem) younger and I would happen to remember this holiday and think "huh?!? my aunts/uncles will never realize that even KNEW about this holiday!" and now that the wheels have turned and I am the aunt, well I am pretty sure I will not be getting any witty greeting cards telling me what a fantastic job I am doing in my aunt duties...just as well!

July 26 - Parent's Day - In 1994, President William Clinton proclaimed the fourth Sunday in July as National Parents Day. Today is not a day of gift giving. That's for Mother's Day and Father's Day. The best way to mark this day is by spending time with your parents doing something fun. Its also important that you let them how how much they are loved and appreciated.

July 27 - Take Your Pants for a Walk Day - well, you need to be wearing said pants when you take them out around the block - that's the whole point! to get yourself out and doing some exercises! chop chop

July 28 - National Milk Chocolate Day - ooooooo, my kind of hol- i- day! I will admit that dark chocolate is my favorite but I won't be bad, I will duly pay my respects today

July 29 - National Lasagna Day - LASAGNA?!?!? how could one say no to that one? yeah, I know it's hot and all but with some chilled wine - I could enjoy celebrating today!

July 30 - National Cheesecake Day - man o man, what a week! today is a PERFECT day to jump and skip downtown and get myself a Key Lime Chocolate covered Cheese Cake on a Stick. Yes you read me write, and you do not know what you are missing until you try one of these babies! rich and sweet, cool and refreshing all on a stick. Yumness at it's best.

July 30 - Father-in-Law Day - If I had a father in law I would take him downtown to get a Key Lime Chocolate covered Cheese Cake on a Stick!

July 31 - Mutt's Day - To all mutts and and mutt owners, we hope you thoroughly enjoy Mutt's Day. Spend the day relaxing and doing all the things you and your dog like to do. Do so with both of your chins held high. For your mutt is worth a million bucks!

August 1 - National Mustard Day - celebrates the "King of the Condiments". I suppose I will have to have a hot dog today as that is how I best enjoy my mustard.

August 1 - National Raspberry Cream Pie Day - With the arrival of ripe berries, it is time to make and enjoy some of your favorite dessert treats. I would truly enjoy being able to try some raspberry cream pie.

Today's share is a fun but usefull blog many of you may be aware of. I like this blog because I am an organization junkie and Tip Junkie helps me to be organized. On this blog not only can you can submit your own giveaways or read about ongoing giveaways that are out there, but there is a whole focus on tips. Who of us do not need tips??? There is a great assistant tool that you can use - my favorite thing is that at the beginning of each month she has super ideas for the month ahead and everyone shares things that they do for the month. You can also add your blog link if you have shared a tip and you can be a part of the Tip Junkie Community. Hello, my name is Rose, and I am a Tip Junkie.

passing along Etsy secrets...

The following article has been extracted from a segment done on Etsy storque regarding tagging your goods on Etsy, hope you find it as interesting as I did:

TAGGING SUGGESTIONS AND IDEAS

For your first tag, choose a main Category from the drop-down.

If the item is handmade or hand-altered by you, your first tag can by any category but vintage.
Don't use the tag commercial.
Handmade crafting supplies? Your first tag can be supplies or another appropriate handmade category.
If you're not sure, go to the Categories page, and see if your item is a Subcategory of any Category. Or, do a search for like items and see what Category most of the items are listed in. Eg. Does an apron go in Accessories or Clothing? Doing a quick check will help you find apron listed under the Accessories Category here.

If your item fits in two categories (eg. Children and Clothing), you may pick which one you use for your top category tag. Try to decide where might a shopper look first.
Only select vintage if the item is 20 years or older. See more on vintage items here.

Now you will choose your remaining 13 tags.

The order of them does not matter. Related tags will pop up as you add tags, remember these are only suggestions that *might* apply to your item. You may choose any that accurately describe your item.
You may also create your own tags based on what will be most accurate for your item. Here are some helpful questions to ask yourself:
1. What is it?
Tip: Don't pick any words that are related, but not what it is. Eg. Don't tag bracelets with "earrings".

Tip: If the word describes what something is, don't use that unless your item *is* that. Eg. Don't tag a tote bag with "clutch", even though you can clutch it in your hand. Don't tag anything but a dress with dress. Eg. Don't tag cookies with "tea" or "coffee", even though you can eat them with these drinks.

2. What is it specifically? What type?

Eg. Hoop (for earrings), v-neck (for sweaters), long sleeve (shirt).

3. Who is it for?

Tip: You may pick as many correct ones as you want. Eg. women, men, baby, children, boy, girl, adult, pets, dog, cat.

4. What is the main material?

Tip: Add the major material to your tags, if it is something you think a buyer might search for to find your item. Add minor materials or component materials to the "materials" box on page 1. Eg. leather, cotton, canvas, felt, metal, 14K gold, sterling silver, glass. If there are two words to describe a material, use them both, as separate tags. Eg. cotton, canvas. metal, 14K gold. mahogany, wood. merino, wool.

5. What is the main color?

Tip: Buyers are not likely to look for minor colors in your piece, so stick to the main color(s) or important color combos! Eg. white, black, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple.

6. What method or technique did you use to make it? Only relevant for some items.

Eg. hammered (for metal jewelry), burned (for woodworking), appliqued, embroidered.

7. Where will the item be used? Only relevant for some items.

Eg. kitchen, hair, office, beach, garden, car, nursery.

8. What size is it?

Eg. small, extra large, 7mm, 18in, 8x10.

9. What style is it?

Eg. goth, victorian, hippie, punk, impressionist, post-modern, feminine, sophisticated, southwestern.

Eg. sweet, spicy, salty (for bath and beauty and food items).

10. Imagery or motifs that are on the item.

Eg. owl, landscape, nature, Marilyn Monroe.

11. Are there synonyms?

Tip: Use these if the word means exactly the same thing as the tag you already used, it is accurate for your item, and you think it will be an important search term that buyers will look for. Eg. Infant for young babies, handbag for purses and clutches, toddler for children 18 months - 3 years, drink for coffee, trousers for pants.

12. Mature content items must have the tag "mature".

Mature content is defined as: sexual activity or content, profane language or graphic violence. Artful representations of the nude human figure do not need the tag "mature".

13. Don't tag with potential uses for the item.

Eg. Don't use "stocking stuffer" or "gift" as tags. Do not tag a messenger bag with "backpack", even though you can wear it on your back. Don't tag a blank book with "poetry".

14. Don't put multiple words in one tag box, unless they are a phrase.

Eg. Do tag with "sterling silver". Don't tag with "silver earrings", these should be two different tags.

Helpful Tips

Feeling stuck? Look to your item description for keywords to use as tags.
Check out this list of colors to inspire using more than just a simple "blue" tag. What about "Cornflower Blue", instead?
Use a second browser window to navigate through the Categories and Subcategories that pertain to your item. This way you can be sure to include tags for all the Subcategories that relate to your item.
If you sell similar items in your shop, it is helpful to create a listing template on your desktop with your most commonly used tags. This way you can quickly pick and choose which ones are appropriate and just copy and paste them into place.
Using Google's Keyword Tool or Yahoo's Keyword Selector Tool will help you generate a list of the most popular related search words and phrases. This involves a good amount of time and research, but can be a valuable tool to help create a list of the most commonly searched for words to use as tags.
You do not have to duplicate words found in a compound tag. Eg. "sterling silver" does not also have to appear as "sterling, silver".

Holiday Previews for the Week

July 19 - National Ice Cream Day - In 1984, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed July as National Ice Cream Month. He also established National Ice Cream Day as the third Sunday in the month. Did you know? Charles E. Minches of St. Louis, Missouri is credited with inventing the ice cream cone. On July 23, 1904 at the World's Fair in St. Louis, he filled a pastry cone with two scoops of ice cream to make the first ice cream cone. There is some controversy over this claim. Italo Marchiony of New York City filed a patent for the ice cream cone months before the fair opened. And, he was selling lemon ice in comes as early as 1896.

July 19 - National Raspberry Cake Day - Raspberries are one of summers sweet, fruity treats. And, the harvest is going on right now. So, it's only appropriate that we enjoy a piece of raspberry cake in celebration of the harvest.

July 20 - Moon Day - On July 16, 1969, Apollo 11 was launched from Cape Kennedy Space Center atop a huge Saturn V rocket. On July 20, 1969, the Lunar Module, nicknamed the "Eagle", touched down on the surface of the moon at Tranquility Base. Upon landing, Apollo 11 Commander Neil Armstrong reported "The Eagle Has Landed". A few hours later, Neil Armstrong, stepped off of the Eagle's ladder, placed one foot upon the moon's surface and proclaimed: "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind".

July 20 - Ugly Truck Day - ok, this one can only be a "guy thing"!

July 21 - National Junk Food Day - Not quite sure if this one is to raise awareness on the effects of junk food like the little nutritional value, high in salts, fats, and sugars. Or is it to let yourself eat junk food all day guilt free? hmmm, I would probably do the later while trying not to think about the side effects!

July 22 - Hammock Day - I have a hammock!!! bought it years ago and always wanted to put it up in the back yard, problem was that we did not have 2 trees close enough to do so - but this past winter we took down our shed and low and behold: two trees close together!! oh the excitement, I cannot explain!!

July 22 - Ratcatcher's Day - One of the most well known German folklore is the story of the Pied Piper of Hamelin. The town of Hamelin, Germany was infested by rats. The mayor promised to handsomely pay the Pied Piper, if he rid the town of rats. The Pied Piper played his flute. Lured by the magical music, all of the rats left town, and followed him. He played his music all the way down to the river. He waded into the river. The rats followed him and drowned. The mayor refused to pay him. So, one night when the townspeople were asleep, the Pied Piper played his music again. This time, the children of the town followed him all the way into a cave. Some versions for the legend vary here. In one version, the e Pied Piper kept them there until he was paid by the town for his services. In most versions, the children were never to be seen again.

July 23 - National Hot Dog Day - Its summertime! Hot dogs are everywhere - they are center stage on the grill, and at picnics all across America. They are at the ballpark. They are sold from carts on street corners in every city. It's not hard to find them. We consume hundreds of millions of hot dogs on the Fourth of July alone.

July 23 - Vanilla Ice Cream Day - Vanilla or chocolate? don't have to fuss over the decision today! yummy yummy yum in my tummy and fun for the taste buds too!

July 24 - Cousins Day - I happened to miss my family reunion because it was scheduled on the same weekend that I was at summer camp. shame, I do have a lot of cousins and it is always fun times when we get together to talk about our favorite people - each others parents!

July 24 - Emilia Earhart Day - This day celebrates the birth of Amelia Earhart on July 24, 1897. Besides the whole disappearance of Amelia Earhart and her navigator, Fred Noonan whilst they were on a record setting attempt to fly around the world, when they became lost in the Pacific Ocean. On July 2, 1937, they headed on a difficult leg of the journey towards Howell Island in the Pacific. Weather conditions were less than ideal. Ultimately, radio communications faded and died. The plane was never heard from again. The life of Amelia is way too interesting! To this day, theories and speculation still exists about the cause of the disappearance. Some theories involve conspiracies, and even alien abductions.

July 25 - Culinarians Day - Today is a fantastic day for anyone who cooks. That means just about everyone of us get to celebrate this day. You don't have to be a chef, or a graduate of a culinary institute to celebrate today, you simply have to cook and enjoy.

July 25 - Threading the Needle Day - The term "thread the needle" is a saying that means to either walk a fine and difficult line between two things or issues, or to do something difficult, so you could use today to try and help 2 friends patch it up OR you could use today to patch up some old jeans or sewing on all of those buttons sitting on your dresser that you have been putting off for (admit it) a while now!

Holiday Previews for the Week

July 12 - Different Colored Eyes Day - Ok, who will be celebrating this one??? Secondly, it recognizes an eye condition called Heterochromia. People who have this trait, have two different colors of eyes. One eye may be brown, while the other is blue. Famous people who have Heterochromia include David Bowie, Jane Seymour, and Christopher Walken.

July 12 - Pecan Pie Day - ...feels kinda odd celebrating this one this time of the year, but boy o boy do we LUV pecan pie!! tis my favorite, absolutely!

July 13 - Barbershop Music Appreciation Day - Edna Mae Anderson of Tulsa, Oklahoma invited some women to her home to sing on July 13, 1945. Their husbands were members of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA). The ladies wanted to participate in the singing fun and enjoyment. On that evening, the "Sweet Adelines" were born. The group later became Sweet Adelines International., which now boasts hundreds of groups and thousands for members. Barbershop Music Appreciation Day was created in 2005 by Sweet Adelines International. It was started to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of their organization. This organization boasts over 300 choruses, and 15,000 singers!

July 13 - Embrace Your Geekness Day - A geek is an individual who is highly intelligent and technically oriented. They are most often associated with the computer, and computer systems world. A geek is usually formal, studious and into his technical world, often to the exclusion of all else....hey, today is my husbands holiday!

July 13 - Fool's Paradise Day - figure this one out and let me know, I mean would a fool know he is in paradise? is it paradise if it has a fool?

July 14 - Bastille Day, or as the French call it: Fete de la Federation commemorates modern France and French democracy. In the late 1700s, France was ruled by a king and on July 14, 1789, there was an uprising against the constitutional monarchy, and the people stormed Bastille, a prison, and it was a symbol of the monarchy. The goal was to create reconciliation for all of France, promote unity, and purse liberty from the monarchy. This uprising ultimately led to the birth of democracy in France.
Fete de la Federation was first held on July 14, 1790, the first anniversary of the storming of the prison at Bastille. This holiday symbolizes the end of the constitutional monarchy, and the beginning of the democratic republic of France. To Frenchmen, Bastille Day is viewed as their liberation.

July 14 - Pandemonium Day - I feel like I celebrating this one more days than not XD, but I plan on enjoying it today!

July 14 - National Nude Day - OmaG! Don't tell my husband about this one LOL

July 15 - Tapioca Pudding Day - mmmmm, who thinks of these holidays? someone that OBviously LUV all the fun things in life. Did u know: Tapioca is the starch from a cassava root. This starch forms the soft, tiny balls in the pudding. It gives tapioca pudding a unique texture.

July 15 - Cow Appreciation Day- Go out and give a cow a hug - hmmm are we to celebrate those four legged beasts or are we to appreciate a delicious burger or a nice cold cup of milk?? either way: thank you cow!

July 17 - Peach Ice Cream Day - oh, peach season is here and all is good. People wait for about 48 weeks for the peach harvest to ripen. And, when it does, for a few short weeks, its "peach everything"! right! Let's celebrate that today.

July 17 - Yellow Pig Day - Pigs are clever and intelligent animals. But, most people are unaware of this high level of intelligence. They can be taught to do tricks. Some people even keep them as pets. Today is a day to give pigs the respect that they deserve.

July 18 - National Caviar Day - Russian Caviar is reputed to be the very best, most sought after of all caviar. There's red caviar and black caviar, along with other colors. Black is considered the best. The most prestigious caviar comes from sturgeon found in the Caspian Sea. But, other fish, including whitefish and salmon, are less expensive alternatives. Perhaps you should do a taste test.
