Holiday Previews for the week

November 15 - Clean Your Refrigerator Day - Never a better time that to get down and dirty in your fridge, I mean with the holidays coming it is a great idea to clear out the clutter and make room for the goodies!

November 15 - America Recycles Day - President George W. Bush issued a presidential proclamation declaring November 15, 2004 as America Recycles Day. The Boy Scouts of America uses a slogan that is perfect for today: "Reduce, Re-use, and Recycle", because recycling is good but try to reduce first so there is less to worry about recycling.

November 15 - National Philanthropy Day - National Philanthropy Day dates back to 1985. According to the official National Philanthropy Day website, this day is set aside to "recognize and pay tribute to the great contributions that philanthropy – and those people active in the philanthropic community – have made to our lives, our communities and our world." These people do an extreme amount of good in our communities from donating time to providing services and many times without searching recognition.

November 16 - Button Day - You could spend some time today sewing on some fallen buttons, or make a button bracelet, maybe you like collecting buttons that say funny or political things? How about starting a button collage today? You can always compare belly buttons! Have fun with it!

November 16 - Have a Party With Your Bear Day - Get out the party banners and balloons. Make a cake. Send out the invitations. Invite all of your teddy bears, and your human friends, too. Let them bring their teddys along. Today is going to be a fun day.

November 17 - Electronic Greeting Card Day - this seems to be the wave of the future, sending real cards in the mail seem to be turning into "when I was a kid" things. sad.

November 17 - Homemade Bread Day - Bread has been made for thousands of years. Estimated to go back to 5000-10,000 B.C. Today's lifestyles has relegated homemade bread to the world of specialty baking and holiday baking. People just do not go the extra mile to bake home made bread, it is just easier to pick something up at the local bakery. The arrival of automatic bread makers has created a small resurgence of home made breads, especially specialty breads.

November 17 - Take A Hike Day - "Hit the road Jack"! I love hiking - or just walking in general. There is so much you see when you are walking as opposed to driving or riding in a car. Our family has done numerous hikes in our area: not only is it great exercises, it is just great to get out into the outdoors and spend some time with nature.

November 17 - World Peace Day - World Peace Day appears to be a grass roots effort. It was started by Don Morris of Miami Florida. It was started around 1997. You may also know Don as "Peaceguy". That's a pretty good alias! He suggests we teach our children and others, in ways to promote peace, and avoid war. He also invites us to write our county's leadership about our support for peace and world harmony

November 18 - Occult Day - Concealed, secret, hidden, mysterious, un-natural. These are all words to describe the world of Occult. Astrology should readily come to mind. Alchemy, too. Many secret groups are occults.

November 18 - Great American Smokeout - The American Cancer Society created this day back in 1977. They have promoted it annually since then. Hopefully, someday, this special day will no longer be needed. The goal of this special day is quite obvious: to get people to quit smoking, resulting in fewer health problems, and less cancer and emphysema deaths resulting from smoking and secondary smoke.

November 19 - Have a Bad Day Day - Believe it or not, Have a Bad Day Day was created to encourage us to wish people to have a bad day. The intent is to have sales people stop saying to their customers "have a good day", and replace it with "have a bad day". ??

November 20 - Absurdity Day - Celebrate this day in an absurd manner. Don't sit back waiting for something absurd to happen. Rather, seek out things to do that are somewhat, if not wholly, illogical. Have fun with it. But, whatever you do, don't try to make sense with it.

November 20 - Beautiful Day - Today is truly a Beautiful Day in every way, shape and form. The world is filled with ugliness. So, as day like today is refreshing, and eye appealing.

November 20 - Universal Children's Day - Universal Children's Day- Observed on November 20th each year. In 1954, the UN General Assembly recommended that all countries should establish a Universal Children's Day on an "appropriate" day. We are not sure, but perhaps each country did.....at various different dates during the year. The resolution was adopted on November 20, 1954.
International Children's Day- The second Sunday in December. This is a joint initiative between UNICEF and the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. It's a day when broadcasters "tune in to kids".
World Children's Day- Always November 20th. This is a day McDonald's uses as a fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House Charities. The first official WCD was held on November 20th, 2002 and was celebrated around the world as a way to celebrate children and benefit RMHC chapters around the world. This now annual celebration is officially held on November 20th each year, however fundraising opportunities often extend beyond the day.

November 20 - National Adoption Day - National Adoption Day is sponsored and promoted by a variety of child care and child adoption agencies and organizations. We have not yet uncovered the creator of this day, and when it was first celebrated.
This day is described as a "National" day. We found no congressional records or presidential proclamation creating this day as a national day. It wasn't until 2006 that this day was celebrated in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Porto Rico. Based on what we have discovered so far, this special day has not been celebrated for long. But, we do feel it is one of the more important special days in the entire calendar.

November 21 - False Confession Day - Crazy idea huh?!? You could actually be making a real confession but pass it on as a false one, you know to hide your true self but free your conscience

November 21 - World Hello Day - World Hello Day was created during the 1973 conflict between Egypt and Israel. The creators of this day, Brian McCormack and Michael McCormack, believe your efforts can help to promote global peace. They believe it starts with communications, hence the greeting to ten people.
