Holiday Previews for the Week

October 18 - No Beard Day - Well, this is a no brainer for me, but for people like Andy Hull of Manchester Orchestra the beard IS the identity!

October 18 - World Menopause day - Origin of this Holiday?

"The International Menopause Society, in collaboration with the World Health Organization, has designated October 18 as World Menopause Day." "In observation of the day, the IMS, through its organ the Council of Affiliated Menopause Societies, distributes sample press materials to inform women about menopause, its management and the impact of estrogen loss." "World Menopause Day can also be a call to implement policies that support research and treatment in the area of menopausal health."

October 19 - Evaluate Your Life Day - I suppose we all need a day to sit back, reevaluate our life and maybe make some life changing decisions or say some big thank you prayers of how things are.

October 19 - New Friends Day - ...can't be a hard one: you just reevaluated your life and I am sure you have found that too many good friends are never enough! Go out and make a new one!!

October 20 - Nationalar School Teacher Day - Never a better time to appreciate the teachers in our lives, in our childrens lives. The intellegence of our race is so important to our future.

October 20 - Brandied Fruit Day - I know, I KNOW!! You all were just asking yourselves: when IS Brandied Fruit Day?!?!?!? Well it has arrived so worry no more, get out your brandy and soak away!!!!!! actually if you do this now, by the holidays they will well soaked and seasoned and you will be glad you did this on the appropriate day

October 20- International Adjust Your Chair Day - because we all have a tendancy to fall into a rut - pump it up, slide it forward or slant it back: just readjust it a little. Do it for the fun of it!!

October 20 - Suspenders Day - Right out of the 80's man! I bet some of you still have some of these in your closet!! maybe even rainbow striped - rock those suspenders today!!

October 21 - Babbling Day - oops, it appears I have been celebrating this day on the wrong date, actually I have been celebrating it on many dates BECAUSE I didn't know the proper date, for you see I am a bit of a blatherskite. Now that I know the appropriate date I will do it up BIG and blabber away, but I refuse to not celebrate on other days. I enjoy my babble, I enjoy other peoples babble as well - just not as much as my own. I often enjoy babbling in different languages as well. it makes me happy.

October 21 - Count Your Buttons Day - I have often wondered how many buttons I have. You know in comparison with other peoples buttons: do I have enough? do I have too many? Better to be in the know - You know?

October 21 - National Pumpkin Cheesecake Day - I love anything Pumpkin, not so much of a cheesecake fan though. But I would love to try some pumpkin cheesecake - anyone have a good recipe?

October 21 - Reptile Awareness Day - I am not a fan of these slinky creatures but I do respect them enourmously (especially if they are enourmous!!).

October 21 - Garbanzo Bean Day - I LOVE garbonzo soup!! Some good chorizo in there mmmmm mmmmm!! October is good garbonzo bean soup day. good idea this day is!!

October 22 - National Nut Day - I am not sure if I am supposed to celebrate the nutty people around me or have some almonds on my salad today - a pooey, I'll just have some pecan pie with my husband: that oughtta settle all scores!

October 22- Clean Up the Earth Day - This holiday should be an everyday holiday for sure. Ofcourse prevention is the best maintenance. Too bad everyone doesn't read my blog so that they know they should not litter in the streets. ehem.

October 22- National Knee Day - Because there is a lot our knees have to put up with and we should take the time out to appreciate that!

October 23 - Chemistry majors, teachers and Chemistry buffs, this special day is for you. National Mole Day commemorates Avogadro's Number (6.02 x 10^23). To thoroughly enjoy National Mole Day, one must first understand what a "Mole" in Chemistry is.
National Mole Day - A "mole" is a basic measuring unit. It equals the atomic mass of a single molecule. It is measured in grams. This measure was discovered by Italian Amadeo Avogadro

October 23 - Canned Food Day - I am not sure why this day is celebrated but I think it may be a reminder that cold days are coming and it is a good time to purchase some extra canned goods and drop them off at your local food bank

October 23 - Tv Talk Show Host Day or Stay up Late Day (to watch those awesome late night talk shows!) - This very special day is celebrated on the birth date of legendary night time talk show host Johnny Carson. Carson is considered the "King of late night Television". He hosted The Tonight Show from 1962 to 1992. His reign lasted a record 29 years, 7 months, 21 days. There were 1,859 episodes. Who is your favorite?

October 24 - United Nations Day - This day recognized the United Nation organization and all who serve and participate in this world organization. The United Nations is dedicated to world peace and to the betterment of humanity through a wide range of program from world hunger to environment and health issues. Almost all of the more than100 countries in the world are members of this organization.

October 24 - Make a Difference Day - Initiated in 1990, this is a national day is for devoted to helping others by doing volunteer work in the community. The activity can be almost anything. Millions of Americans participate in community improvement projects. It takes the form of cleanup, fixup, painting, and repair in poorer neighborhoods, parks and municipal facilities. It doesn't matter what project you take on. It doesn't matter whether you help a non-profit organization, the community, your town, nursing home, a church, a food kitchen, or any other group in need. What matters is that you participate. Did You Know? Each year on Make a Difference Day, ex-President Jimmie Carter gets out his hammer and saw ,and helps to build or rebuild housing in underprivileged areas. There is not better example of people helping others than this!

October 24- National Crazy Day - Shall we celebrate the crazy people in our lives or the crazy lives we live? How about just going crazy for the day and doing something crazy? you know: burping outloud and saying "what was that?". NOT turning on your computer and relaxing instead. breakfast for dinner. wear purple WITH orange. putting on that lipstick you know is not your color but you like it. sending a "I love your cat" card to your neighbor for no reason....the possibilities are ENDLESS!!

October 24 - Sour Day - U like sour candy? don't be sour - have some and pucker up and celebrate!!

October 24 - National Bologna Day - I am going to admit that I am not a bologna fan, although it's hard for me to remember that there are all kinds of bologna, there definitely is variety. There is what you and I would call regular Bologna, German Bologna, Beef Bologna, Kosher Bologna, and more. Depending upon the kind of Bologna, it could include pork, beef, chicken, and spices. It's easy to enjoy National Bologna Day . Have a Bologna sandwich. And, don't forget the mustard.

I remember Mole Day from when I took chemistry in high school. The students taking enriched chemistry in my school celebrated it on October 23rd (10/23). The students taking college prep chemistry (like me) celebrated it on June 2nd (6/2).
