November 22 - Go For a Ride Day - Crazy holiday days are a comin - take some time today to go for a ride and relax and enjoy! sleigh ride, carriage ride, bike ride, snowmobile ride, horse ride, etc... the possibilities are endless!!

November 23 - Eat a Cranberry Day - Native to North America, cranberries are grown in bogs, and are primarily grown in New England. When the pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock, they found Native Americans harvesting them, and eating them. Native Americans also used them as dyes for clothing, and for medicinal purposes. Sooo yummy and good for you too!!

November 23 - National Cashew Day - Have I mentioned how much I love this season? ALL OF THE FOOD!!!! cashews are yummy by the hand full or used to enhance your desserts and meals. I am currently enjoying cashew butter in lieu of peanut butter YUM!!

November 25 - National Parfait Day - A parfait consists of layers of ice cream, whipped cream, and any combination of syrups and fruits. Yes, it's basically a fancy word for a sundae. And, it's usually served in a fancy glass. So be FANCY today and enjoy yourself a delicious parfait!

November 25 - Tie one on day - apron that is! Yes you know that things women use to wear every single day of their life while doing chores, raising children, cooking & cleaning.

November 26 - Thanksgiving Day - need I say more? give thanks.

November 27 - Black Friday - OMG! If you do crowds this is definitely not for you, but if you are all into feeding off of the buzz of the busy-ness and enjoy the crazy hectic fun then you have GOT to do this!! I don't remember this all happening when I was a child, but when I came back from being in Italy for 13 years my brother mentioned the experience to me and I thought: p-sshhaw! what's that all about? so the next year I though OK, I'll go see what it's all about and WOW was I in for a treat! the pushing, the shoving, the old ladies yelling at each other, the mean people ramming carts into each other, the lines! yes! I grab a coffee and I am off to enjoy the madness of it all. I sit back and watch people. it is fun to watch people, and this is people at their best: acting in their true nature. Just as good as watching national geographic. I get a lot of laughs in on Black Friday. yes, I am a bit twisted.

November 27 - You're Welcome Day - Because after all that meanness of yesterday people are more about being nice today and since we gave thanks yesterday we are feeling generous today :)

November 27 - Buy Nothing Day - The brainchild of Ted Dave from Vancouver Canada, this special day is promoted by a group called Adbusters. It was first celebrated in 1992. Should be a day to reflect the true meaning of Christmas and not give in to the buying of material stuff.

November 27 - Sinkie Day - This holiday is for snacking over the kitchen sink! "Thanksgiving leftovers provide a great excuse to partake in this national pastime of dining over the kitchen sink." The day after Thanksgiving is a munch time that requires us to munch on this and munch on that..... leaving us with no need for a plate."" All we really need is the kitchen sink where we lean over the sink and nibble away while crumbs and food juices fall in the sink for easy clean up

November 27 - Pins and Needles Day - The real origin of this special day goes back to the labor movement in the 1930s. The pro-labor Broadway musical Pins and Needles, opened on this day in 1937, at the Labor Stage Theater in New York City. This play was written by Harold Rome. It was produced by the International Ladies Garment Workers' Union. Union members made up the cast. It ran for 1108 performances, once holding the record for longevity.

November 28 - Red Planet Day - On Red Planet Day, take a few minutes to look upwards into the sky, and gaze at our neighbor. Hopefully, you will have a cloudless night sky for viewing. You can also recognize this day by reading up about Mars, and viewing pictures of it. There are plenty of pictures online. We've noted some of those sites below in the "More Information"section. Red Planet Day commemorates the launch of the Spacecraft Mariner 4 on November 28,1964. The 228 day mission of Mariner 4 brought the spacecraft within 6,118 miles of Mars on July 14, 1965.

Holiday Previews for the week

November 15 - Clean Your Refrigerator Day - Never a better time that to get down and dirty in your fridge, I mean with the holidays coming it is a great idea to clear out the clutter and make room for the goodies!

November 15 - America Recycles Day - President George W. Bush issued a presidential proclamation declaring November 15, 2004 as America Recycles Day. The Boy Scouts of America uses a slogan that is perfect for today: "Reduce, Re-use, and Recycle", because recycling is good but try to reduce first so there is less to worry about recycling.

November 15 - National Philanthropy Day - National Philanthropy Day dates back to 1985. According to the official National Philanthropy Day website, this day is set aside to "recognize and pay tribute to the great contributions that philanthropy – and those people active in the philanthropic community – have made to our lives, our communities and our world." These people do an extreme amount of good in our communities from donating time to providing services and many times without searching recognition.

November 16 - Button Day - You could spend some time today sewing on some fallen buttons, or make a button bracelet, maybe you like collecting buttons that say funny or political things? How about starting a button collage today? You can always compare belly buttons! Have fun with it!

November 16 - Have a Party With Your Bear Day - Get out the party banners and balloons. Make a cake. Send out the invitations. Invite all of your teddy bears, and your human friends, too. Let them bring their teddys along. Today is going to be a fun day.

November 17 - Electronic Greeting Card Day - this seems to be the wave of the future, sending real cards in the mail seem to be turning into "when I was a kid" things. sad.

November 17 - Homemade Bread Day - Bread has been made for thousands of years. Estimated to go back to 5000-10,000 B.C. Today's lifestyles has relegated homemade bread to the world of specialty baking and holiday baking. People just do not go the extra mile to bake home made bread, it is just easier to pick something up at the local bakery. The arrival of automatic bread makers has created a small resurgence of home made breads, especially specialty breads.

November 17 - Take A Hike Day - "Hit the road Jack"! I love hiking - or just walking in general. There is so much you see when you are walking as opposed to driving or riding in a car. Our family has done numerous hikes in our area: not only is it great exercises, it is just great to get out into the outdoors and spend some time with nature.

November 17 - World Peace Day - World Peace Day appears to be a grass roots effort. It was started by Don Morris of Miami Florida. It was started around 1997. You may also know Don as "Peaceguy". That's a pretty good alias! He suggests we teach our children and others, in ways to promote peace, and avoid war. He also invites us to write our county's leadership about our support for peace and world harmony

November 18 - Occult Day - Concealed, secret, hidden, mysterious, un-natural. These are all words to describe the world of Occult. Astrology should readily come to mind. Alchemy, too. Many secret groups are occults.

November 18 - Great American Smokeout - The American Cancer Society created this day back in 1977. They have promoted it annually since then. Hopefully, someday, this special day will no longer be needed. The goal of this special day is quite obvious: to get people to quit smoking, resulting in fewer health problems, and less cancer and emphysema deaths resulting from smoking and secondary smoke.

November 19 - Have a Bad Day Day - Believe it or not, Have a Bad Day Day was created to encourage us to wish people to have a bad day. The intent is to have sales people stop saying to their customers "have a good day", and replace it with "have a bad day". ??

November 20 - Absurdity Day - Celebrate this day in an absurd manner. Don't sit back waiting for something absurd to happen. Rather, seek out things to do that are somewhat, if not wholly, illogical. Have fun with it. But, whatever you do, don't try to make sense with it.

November 20 - Beautiful Day - Today is truly a Beautiful Day in every way, shape and form. The world is filled with ugliness. So, as day like today is refreshing, and eye appealing.

November 20 - Universal Children's Day - Universal Children's Day- Observed on November 20th each year. In 1954, the UN General Assembly recommended that all countries should establish a Universal Children's Day on an "appropriate" day. We are not sure, but perhaps each country did.....at various different dates during the year. The resolution was adopted on November 20, 1954.
International Children's Day- The second Sunday in December. This is a joint initiative between UNICEF and the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. It's a day when broadcasters "tune in to kids".
World Children's Day- Always November 20th. This is a day McDonald's uses as a fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House Charities. The first official WCD was held on November 20th, 2002 and was celebrated around the world as a way to celebrate children and benefit RMHC chapters around the world. This now annual celebration is officially held on November 20th each year, however fundraising opportunities often extend beyond the day.

November 20 - National Adoption Day - National Adoption Day is sponsored and promoted by a variety of child care and child adoption agencies and organizations. We have not yet uncovered the creator of this day, and when it was first celebrated.
This day is described as a "National" day. We found no congressional records or presidential proclamation creating this day as a national day. It wasn't until 2006 that this day was celebrated in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Porto Rico. Based on what we have discovered so far, this special day has not been celebrated for long. But, we do feel it is one of the more important special days in the entire calendar.

November 21 - False Confession Day - Crazy idea huh?!? You could actually be making a real confession but pass it on as a false one, you know to hide your true self but free your conscience

November 21 - World Hello Day - World Hello Day was created during the 1973 conflict between Egypt and Israel. The creators of this day, Brian McCormack and Michael McCormack, believe your efforts can help to promote global peace. They believe it starts with communications, hence the greeting to ten people.

Holiday Previews for the week

November 8 - Cook Something Bold Day - because sometimes you just gotta!

November 8 - Dunce Day - Duns Scotus of Duns, Scotland was a medieval scholar. Perceptions of his views ranged from brilliant to less than complimentary. Duns Scotus believed that cone shaped hats increased learning potential. He believed knowledge would flow from the point of the cap, down and into the head of the wearer, making that person smarter. About all this accomplished over time, was the perception of a person wearing a dunce cap to be...... a dunce. Dunce Day celebrates the the term "Dunce" and dunce caps. Today marks the death (November 8, 1308) of medieval scholar Duns Scotus of Duns, Scotland.

November 9 - Chaos Never Dies Day - is this a reminder of the holiday season that is upon us?

November 10 - Forget-Me-Not Day - What a perfect day to Send Forget Me Not Day Ecards, Send Forget Me Not flowers to people you haven't seen in a while, Give Forget Me Not flower seed packets to family and friends, Phone people you haven't seen in a while and wish them a happy National Forget Me Not Day.

November 10 - USMC Day celebrates the birth of the United States Marine Corps. The Marine Corps were created during the Revolutionary War. The Continental Congress of the newly created United States of America, authorized the creation of the Continental Marines on November 10, 1775. It was later renamed the U.S. Marine Corps. It is often abbreviated as USMC. The Marine Corps has proudly participated in every war that has involved the United States. If you see a Marine today, thank them for their contributions to protecting our country. Active or retired, they deserve our thanks and appreciation.

November 11 - Veteran's Day - This holiday originally was called Armistice Day and was first celebrated in 1921, then in 1954, President Eisenhower changed it to Veteran's Day in honor of those who served and died from all wars. On November 11 at 11:11, 1921 the U.S. France and England each buried an unknown soldier in honor of those who died in World War I. This began the annual Armistice Day holiday. The time and day was picked because fighting ceased in WWI in 1918 on November 11 at 11:11. In keeping with this tradition, work stops on this day and time each year for a moment of silence.

November 12 - Chicken Soup for the Soul Day - mmmmmm, cool days a comin' and chicken noodle soup sounds deelicious!

November 13 - National Indian Pudding Day - American Indian puddings are defined as a number recipes of native American Indian origin. Generally, they include molasses and cornmeal. Apples were often an ingredient. They were usually baked. November seems the appropriate time to celebrate this day.

November 13 - Sadie Hawkins Day - Here is a holiday that originated from a cartoon. It all began in Al Capp's "Lil Abner Cartoon in the 1930's. In the cartoon series, the mayor of Dogpatch was desperate to marry off his ugly daughter. So he created Sadie Hawkin's Day. On this day, a race is held and all the single men were given a short head start. If a woman catches her man, he had to marry her.

November 13 - World Kindness Day - World Kindness Day evolved from a series of conferences in 1996-1997 in Japan by a group known as the World Kindness Movement. These conferences brought together groups interested in promoting more kindness around the world. It culminated in the "Declaration of Kindness" on November 13,1997

November 14 - Operating Room Nurse Day - The roots of this special day trace back to Iowa. On November 14, 1989, Iowa Governor Terry Branstad established Operating Room Nurse Day. Any day is a proper day to honor those important nurses, who care for patients before, during and immediately after surgery.

November 14 - Young Readers Day - Young Readers Day was co-founded in 1989 by Pizza Hut and the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress. Use today to help and encourage our youth to learn to read, and open the door to knowledge, information, success, and happiness.

Holiday Previews for the week

November 1 All Saint's Day - All Saints Day and All Souls Day was originally in May. They were moved to November 1st and 2and to downplay the Pagan holidays of Halloween (All Hallow's Eve) and Dia De Loss Muertos. Religious leaders felt these holidays were too popular at the time to ban outright.

November 2 All Soul's Day - The Christian holiday of All Soul's Day pays respect and remembers the souls of all friends and loved ones who have died and gone to heaven. It is a time to pray for their souls that they may be received into heaven. Upon death, it is believed that souls have not yet been cleansed of sin. Praying for souls of loved ones helps to remove the stain of sin, and allow the souls to enter the pearly gates of heaven. All Souls Day was started in 998. In Europe everyone takes off of work (no explanation needed) and go to the cemetery to replace the flowers and spruce up things while they spend time with the neighboring families of their own family's plots.

November 2 Look for Circles Day - this could mean crop circles, circle rings...just have fun looking! (i have already spotted some under my eyes!!)

November 2 Deviled Egg Day - now THAT is a YUMmy idea!! usually something served at a fancy dinner or summer bar bq - it's a good thing to serve them 'just because'!

November 3 Housewife's Day - uh Yah. I luv any excuse to celebrate me...wait? but, what does this mean? do we have to be more housewivey? or we are celebrated?
Housewife is an old term. It hails back to the days when one income could support the family in a manner of comfort. It was also a time when women did not have equal rights. While these days are long gone, women views of working or staying at home, fall on both sides of the fence. The decision to be a "housewife", or stay at home mom, is still preferred by many. Unfortunately, income needs often necessitate going to work. I celebrate all "mom's AND dad's" that take care of their home and house and do for their family as is our duty to do.

November 3 Sandwich Day - The annals of English history report that John Montagu was the 4th Earl of Sandwich. Among other things, the 4th Earl of Sandwich was a heavy gambler. Montagu often spent many long hours in London's gambling parlors. In 1762, he created the sandwich, by putting meat between two pieces of bread. This allowed him to remain at the gambling table for long periods of time. Obviously, the sandwich was named after him ....YAY Mr. Montagu!! (is there a montagu sandwich?..if not, somebody should patent that)

November 4 King Tut Day - "..walk like an Egyptian!" King Tut Day celebrates the date of the discovery of King Tutankhamen's Tomb. Over 3,000 years ago, King Tutankhamen became the King of Egypt at the age of 9. He died at the age of 19. He is commonly called "King Tut". The tomb of Egypt's "child king" was discovered on November 4, 1922. The tomb was discovered nearly intact in Egypt's Valley of Kings. King Tut's rule lasted a short nine years, from 1333 B.C. to 1324 B.C. The cause of his death is uncertain. Murder and an innocent accident are the two main theories. How about some Egyptian flair jewelry today or a fun Egyptian craft?

November 5 Gunpowder Day - Celebrate today for our 4th of July just would not be the same without the invention of said product! King James I took the throne in England in 1603 and as an avid Protestant, he began persecuting Catholics in the country. He forbid Catholics from practicing their religion. He punished Catholics who did not convert to the Protestant church. The Gunpowder Conspirators were a group of Catholics who sought to take action against the king. They plotted to blow up the British Houses of Parliament. They planned to do so, when the king and his supporters were in the buildings. Their plot was uncovered on November 5, 1605. Thirty six barrels of gunpowder were found in the basement of Parliament. Guy Fawkes, the leader of the conspiracy, was arrested and tortured until he confessed. He was arrested just as he was about to ignite the gunpowder

November 5 Guy Fawkes Day - ehem, we just talked about him above.

November 6 Book Lovers Day - curl up with an amazing book, new or old. enjoy!

November 6 Marooned without a Compass Day - Just pretend, that for one day, you have no direction and you are forced to carry on with no guide. interesting fun will be had by all!

November 6 Saxophone Day - The Saxophone was invented around 1840. It was created by Adophe Sax, a Belgian musical instrument maker. The sax is made of brass. There are four types of saxophones: soprano, alto, tenor and baritone. The Saxophone is a classical woodwind instrument. It is an essential instrument in jazz bands, symphonic bands, marching bands and more.

November 7 Bittersweet Chocolate with Almonds Day - Chocolate is an amazing vegetable which is made from cocoa beans and Almonds is a super nut that helps to improve your Cholesterol levels. So, bittersweet chocolate with almonds is good for you, period. all is well in Happyland.

OMG! I just have to blog about this one right away - well, I just found out about it.
Cr8tivity.com is a pretty cool site, they offer Etsy sellers a simple way to view things like who hearts you and your shop statistics, we've seen these things right. Well
Cr8tivity.com
There is an Inventory helper, which is an Excel file download (csv format) of your current listings as it is returned by the Etsy API. You can open it in MS Excel or OpenOffice. It contains the columns Listing Id, State, Title, Creation Date, Number of Views, Price, Expiration Date, Quantity, Section Title, Sold?, Listing Fee, Selling Fee, Shipping Fee, and Date Sold. Use it to keep track of your inventory.

Also offers you a simple way to pull up an item in your shop (it carries over your listings for you) and with a simple click you can create a flyer to print and use. It also allows you to edit your listings description and cost for the flyer: very cool!! But even COOLER is the slide show widget - (*so exited*), they automatically pull up all of your Etsy listings and put it in a slide show, you need only copy and Post the html into your blog layout!! YOU HAVE GOT TO TRY IT!!! You can see mine in the upper right hand corner, I did it in 2 minutes: REALLY! and you don't even have to go through all that registration/sign in stuff.

THank you Cr8tivity.com, today - you are my hero :)

October 25 - Punk for a Day Day - you know you've always wanted to rock a Mohawk! Don't want to go that far? paint your nails black and lay on the eye liner and have fun!! (just don't show it)

October 25 - World Pasta Day - The world is a happier place today. World Pasta Day was established as an annual event at the first World Pasta Congress held on October 25, 1995 in (where else?) Rome, Italy.

October 26- National Mule Day - The first mules in America arrived in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1785. They were a gift from King Charles III of Spain.

October 26 - National Mincemeat Day - Mincemeat is a mixture of minced meats, suet, and fruits. The meat is usually beef, either ground up or sirloin. Fruits include raisins, apples pear, and others. Sometimes liquor is added, most commonly brandy or rum. Mincemeat dates back to medieval times. It was a way to preserve food. It was also a treat, mixed with sweet fruits. Somewhere in the last half of the 1900's, it lost it's popularity. A whole generation has grown up, not knowing what it is, or having ever tasted it. Today, it is most often served as Minced Meat Pie. Over the years, the amount of meat in the recipes was reduced. In older recipes, you will find meat and/or suet among the ingredients. More modern recipes, it contains little or no meat, and is largely a fruity pie. It remains a traditional pie at Thanksgiving for many families.

October 26 - National Sleep-In Day - It's a Monday, so that will be a little difficult for people who have to work, but maybe you can get an extra 10 - 15 minutes.

October 26 - Horseless Carriage Day - huh?

October 27 - National Tell a Story Day - True story or fable. Mystery or comedy. Does not matter, just tell a story. Tell your own to a coworker. It is supposed to be fun. I m a g i n a t i o n is brain exercises!

October 27 - Cranky Co-workers Day - and you know you all have one, unless you work alone...or maybe even you??

October 27 - Navy Day - In the United States, Navy Day is commonly celebrated on October 27th. This date was selected as it was the birth date of President Theodore Roosevelt, an avid supporter of the U.S. Navy. In the 1970's, research determined that the birthday of the U.S. Continental Navy was October 13, 1775. At the time, efforts were made to move Navy Day to this date. However, Navy Day in the United Stares is still largely recognized as October 27th.

October 28 - Plush Animal Lover's Day - Luckily it's not "take your plush to work day" which is slightly weird. But you can enjoy and appreciate your plush animals. Give them a little love and special attention today.

October 28 - DA DA DA DA DA DAAAAA: National Chocolate Day need I say more?!?!?

October 29 - Hermit Day - For some people, being a recluse is a way of life. They spend everyday by themselves, in peaceful seclusion. For whatever reason, Hermits prefer living away from the crowds and the sea of humanity. For many of us who lead an increasingly busy lifestyle, the idea of being a "Hermit for a Day" is very tempting. The thought of getting away from it all, even if for just one day, is very appealing.

October 29- International Internet Day - I have a feeling none of you have a hard time spending some time today on the Internet to celebrate

October 29 - Basketball Coaches Day - some of you may have sons, brothers, nieces, granddaughters that are on a team...remind them to say "thanks!".

October 30 - Frankenstein Friday - Frankenstein Day is on August 30 and is in honor of author Mary Wollenstone Shelley who was born on August 30,1797. She wrote the book "Frankenstein "in 1818. Frankenstein Friday is a day to appreciate the monster himself, the creature that was created. Good timing for Halloween huh?

October 30 - Haunted Refrigerator Night - wwhhew! (i see dead food at night).

October 30 - National Candy Corn Day - ooooeooYa! The guilty pleasures of the season begin!! Candy corn was invented in the 1880s by George Renninger, and first manufactured by the Wunderle Candy Company. The Goelitz Candy company was the first to manufacture mass quantities around the turn of the century.

October 30 - Mischief Night - Mischief Night appears to have roots in England back to the nineteenth century. Some documentation and readings has it occurring on Halloween night. Other, references, has is on the 30th. Historically, some common forms of mischief on this has included: Soaping windows, Egging houses and cars, tossing a few rotten tomatoes, Toilet papering house trees, Knocking on doors and then running away. It's all supposed to be in good fun and not extreme or mean. Keep that in mind if you plan on whipping up some mischief.

October 31- National Magic Day - "you can do magic! you can do anything that you desire!". I could make myself disappear for a while today ...hmmmm..

October 31 - Carve a Pumpkin Day - I did mine already! I will have to admit I did one of those fake ones (on sale now cuz it's late in the season) you can carve it just like a real one and you can keep it from year to year. October 18 - World Menopause day - Origin of this Holiday?

"The International Menopause Society, in collaboration with the World Health Organization, has designated October 18 as World Menopause Day." "In observation of the day, the IMS, through its organ the Council of Affiliated Menopause Societies, distributes sample press materials to inform women about menopause, its management and the impact of estrogen loss." "World Menopause Day can also be a call to implement policies that support research and treatment in the area of menopausal health."

October 20 - Suspenders Day - Right out of the 80's man! I bet some of you still have some of these in your closet!! maybe even rainbow striped - rock those suspenders today!!

October 21 - Babbling Day - oops, it appears I have been celebrating this day on the wrong date, actually I have been celebrating it on many dates BECAUSE I didn't know the proper date, for you see I am a bit of a blatherskite. Now that I know the appropriate date I will do it up BIG and blabber away, but I refuse to not celebrate on other days. I enjoy my babble, I enjoy other peoples babble as well - just not as much as my own. I often enjoy babbling in different languages as well. it makes me happy.

October 21 - Count Your Buttons Day - I have often wondered how many buttons I have. You know in comparison with other peoples buttons: do I have enough? do I have too many? Better to be in the know - You know?

October 22- Clean Up the Earth Day - This holiday should be an everyday holiday for sure. Ofcourse prevention is the best maintenance. Too bad everyone doesn't read my blog so that they know they should not litter in the streets. ehem.

October 22- National Knee Day - Because there is a lot our knees have to put up with and we should take the time out to appreciate that!

October 23 - Chemistry majors, teachers and Chemistry buffs, this special day is for you. National Mole Day commemorates Avogadro's Number (6.02 x 10^23). To thoroughly enjoy National Mole Day, one must first understand what a "Mole" in Chemistry is.
National Mole Day - A "mole" is a basic measuring unit. It equals the atomic mass of a single molecule. It is measured in grams. This measure was discovered by Italian Amadeo Avogadro

October 23 - Canned Food Day - I am not sure why this day is celebrated but I think it may be a reminder that cold days are coming and it is a good time to purchase some extra canned goods and drop them off at your local food bank

October 23 - Tv Talk Show Host Day or Stay up Late Day (to watch those awesome late night talk shows!) - This very special day is celebrated on the birth date of legendary night time talk show host Johnny Carson. Millions of Americans participate in community improvement projects. It takes the form of cleanup, fixup, painting, and repair in poorer neighborhoods, parks and municipal facilities. It doesn't matter what project you take on. It doesn't matter whether you help a non-profit organization, the community, your town, nursing home, a church, a food kitchen, or any other group in need. What matters is that you participate. Did You Know? Each year on Make a Difference Day, ex-President Jimmie Carter gets out his hammer and saw ,and helps to build or rebuild housing in underprivileged areas. There is not better example of people helping others than this!

October 24- National Crazy Day - Shall we celebrate the crazy people in our lives or the crazy lives we live? How about just going crazy for the day and doing something crazy? you know: burping outloud and saying "what was that?". NOT turning on your computer and relaxing instead. breakfast for dinner. wear purple WITH orange. putting on that lipstick you know is not your color but you like it. sending a "I love your cat" card to your neighbor for no reason....the possibilities are ENDLESS!!

October 11 - It's My Party Day - How did you know????? ofcourse, everyday IS MY party day (...and I'll cry if I want to...). In any case EVERYDAY truley is a reason to celebrate and we might as well have a party every so often, because - well, it's fun (especially if you can get someone else to organize it for you!!

October 11 - Take Your Teddy Bear to Work Day - this one is kinda creepy. I would not be too sure about an individual that shows up to work with teddy bear in tow, now take it in your car and buckle it in - yeah, I could deal with that. But make sure you put on his dress clothes (funny how I think of all teddy bears as being boys).

October 12 - Columbus Day - YAY! The tourists are in town and there are festivities everywhere: I Love it!! and thank goodness for Chris, if it wasn't for his stubborness our world would be a LOT different today. Some simple knows:
Columbus Discovered America in 1492. He originally set sail on August 3, 1492, but had trouble with the ships, stopping at the Canary Islands for a month. The ships left the Canary Islands on September 3,1492.
He travelled with three ships: The Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria
While Columbus was an Italian, he could not find funding in Italy, so he turned to the King of Spain. King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella provided the funding.
He did not land on the U.S. mainland. He landed on an island in the Caribbean. While many believe he landed on San Salvador, there is still debate on which island he originally landed on.

October 12 - Cookbook Launch Day - Go ahead - start your own! You know you've thought about it: a place to put all of your favorite recipes, maybe a book you would like to think would be passed on through the generations. How about a book that you pass through your existing family and have everyone put their favorite recipe in? The possiblilities are endless!!

October 12 - Old Farmer's Day - ee I ee I oh! Old Farmers Day honors the hard labor of farmers throughout American history. Early American culture was heavily a farming culture. Early settlers cleared fields and pristine woods, to farm the rich land. They brought seeds and farming methods with them. They found new seeds, and learned new methods along the way. Many of those new farming methods came from Native Americans, who were already farming the land.

October 12 - Moment of Frustration Day - I have had many of those recently, nice to know I can be official today.

October 14 - National Dessert Day - .........say no more

October 15 - White Cane Safety Day - White Cane Safety Day celebrates and recognizes the achievements of the blind and visually impaired, and their independence. That independence is represented by the white cane that they use to travel from place to place. On October 15, 1964, a Joint resolution of Congress passed legislation marking this day. President Lyndon Johnson immediately issued a proclamation declaring this day to be White Cane Safety Day. This is an annual proclamation.

October 16 - Bosses Day - The origin of Bosses Day dates back to 1958. Paticia Bays Haroski, an employee at State Farm Insurance Company in Illinois, registered it with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Ms. Haroski chose the date because it was her father's birthday. Who was her boss? ....her father.

October 16 - Dictionary Day - Do you know that kids today do NOT KNOW HOW TO USE A DICTIONARY!!!!!!!!!! It really bothers me to no end, I work with kids a lot and I will bring out my handy dictionary and tell them (as my father told me) look it up! and they will sit there are stare at the book like it is poisonous. UUUUGGGGGGGGGH! REALLY????? what is going on here?? Do they not have these things in school anymore?? and what's with the Dictionary people just changing the spelling of certain words so that the words are more modern? why don't they tell us these things? I can do spell check and be told a word is wrong - um, excuse me but I have been spelling that word that way all my life and NOW IT IS WRONG?? .....ok, I will stop ranting......
Dictionary Day is in honor of Noah Webster, considered the Father of the American Dictionary. Noah Webster was born on October 16, 1758.

October 17 - Sweetest Day Third Saturday of month -
Herbert Birch Kingston, a Cleveland, Ohio philanthropist and candy company employee started Sweetest Day. He wanted to bring happiness to orphans, shut-ins and under-privileged. His intent was to show these people that they were not forgotten. In 1922, he started this holiday by giving candy and small gifts. He often used movie stars to distribute the gifts. How sweet is that? Let's all TRY to be sweet today (and if you happen to have some sweets too, well then: life is good

October 17 - Wear Something Gaudy Day - Whhaaaa? you mean I can't do this every other day of the year? HA! we all need a little gaudyness in our life!!
funny too: The roots of this day go back to the hit 1970's television comedy show "Three's Company". Larry Dallas (played by Richard Kline), one of the characters on the show, declared a Wear Something Gaudy Day.

Did You Know that at the very first National Golf Day event, celebrities Bob Hope, Dean Martin, and Jerry Lewis were in attendance.

October 4 - National Frappe Day - The dictionary definition of Frappes is that it is an ice cream beverage drink. So, what's with all the fuss? Isn't that just a Milk shake? I dunno, in any case they are yummy and I will not deprive myself of celebrating this day.

October 4 - Oktoberfest in Germany ends - The very first Oktoberfest was held on October 12, 1810. It was held to commemorate the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig (King Ludwig 1) to Princess Therese of Sachsen-Hildburghausen. The wedding took place on October 12th, and a great horse race (in celebration of the marriage) was held a few days later on October 17th. The marriage was celebrated annually, and came to be known as Oktoberfest. Early Oktoberfest celebrations were held in October. The festival was eventually moved to September, as the weather was better earlier in the Fall. Oktoberfest has been held annually since 1810. Throughout this time, it has been canceled a few times, due to wars, and once due to a major Cholera outbreak (1854) in the region. Over the years, the festival grew. Carnival booths appeared. Beer became a central theme, and flowed freely. Food was a big part of the festivities. And, later rides were added. Millions of people annually flock to Oktoberfest in Munich.

October 5 - Do Something Nice Day - Doing something nice for someone almost always evokes a very pleasant response. At the very least, it results in a smile. More likely, that person will do something nice to, or for you. And, best of all, doing something nice just might be contagious. In keeping with the spirit of this day, set a goal to do something nice for someone.

October 5 - World Teacher's Day - World Teachers' Day was initiated by the Director-General of UNESCO, Federico Mayor, at the International Conference on Education in Geneva in 1993. October 6 - Come and Take it Day - Today is Come and Take It Day. This day is here for the taking. Grab it. Take it and run with it, and most of all have fun with it!

October 6 - Mad Hatter Day - I love The Mad Hatter! Especially the one to come with Tim Burtons movie!!! The Mad Hatter is always acting silly. So, on Mad Hatter Day, it is only fair and fitting to act a little silly yourself. The Mad Hatter wears a top hat. On the front of the hat is a slip of paper with "10/6" written on it. The paper is believed to be an order to make the hat, and that it costs ten shillings sixpence.

October 6 - Physician Assistant Day - The profession of Physician's Assistant was created in 1965 by Dr. Eugene Stead at Duke Medical Center. The first physician assistants graduated from Duke University on October 6, 1967. Since then, this job has grown to tens of thousands of people.

October 7 - World Smile Day - Harvey Ball, a commercial artist from Worcester, Massachusetts created the smiley face in 1963. The State Mutual Life Assurance Company hired Harvey as a free lance artist to create a smiley face for use in improving company morale. From there, the bright and cheerful smiley grew in popularity. It's popularity grew slowly at first. Then, it exploded in the 1970's. Ultimately, the smiley became wildly popular. There is some controversy over the smiley's creation. French entrepreneur named Franklin Loufrani claimed to have invented it in 1968. In 1971 he patented it in 80 countries. World Smile Day celebrates the ever popular yellow smiley. It also offers us an opportunity to do an act of kindness. According to the World Smile Day website, a proclamation of this day was made by the U.S. Congress. Now that should put a smiley on your face.

October 8 - American Touch Tag Day - today is a day to play Touch Tag. That' s right the child's game of Tag. Touch Tag is probably the most popular child's game in America. Almost all kids have played some version of it.

October 9 - Curious Events Day - Curious Events Day kinda peaks one's curiosity. Why does this day exist? Who created it? What curious events are held today? The questions go on, and on, and on...... If you have a questioning and curious mind, this is your day. It encourages you to hold some kind of event that peak's one's curiosity. The topics are broad and seemingly endless, from philosophical subjects, to the existence of aliens. The only requirement is that the event must tantalize, and cater to our curiosity.

October 9 - Fire Prevention Day - According to legend, on October 8, 1871, Mrs. O'Leary was in her barn, milking her cow. The cow kicked over a lamp which started the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The fire burned for over 27 hours. When it was over, more than 300 people were killed, 100,000 people were left homeless, and over 17,00 structures were destroyed. The Great Chicago fire sparked major efforts in fire prevention. Forty years later, the Fire Marshall's Association of North America(FMANA) held the first Fire Prevention Day. In 1920 , President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Fire Prevention Week. Did You Know that dalmatians became fire dogs because they were often kept around the horses at fire houses to guard them.
"EDITH" stand for "Exit Drills In The Home". Today is a good day to have a practice drill.

October 9 - Leif Erikson Day - Around 1002 A.D., Leif Erikson sailed to North America from his home in Greenland. He went in search of a land seen(but not visited) by a Norse Sea Captain. During the voyage, he landed in a number of places. The landings were never documented in a map. It is believed he landed along the coast of New Foundland, and perhaps as far south as near Cape Cod. Erikson and his men spent the winter in North America. They built a large house for lodging , and a shed to shelter the boat over the long winter. Leif Erikson never returned to further explore North America. A number of explorers, including his brother, travelled to North America. His brother was killed by Indians. In 1964, a joint resolution of Congress declared October 9th as Leif Erikson Day.

October 9 - Moldy Cheese Day - Ewww, maybe this should just be Clean out your Fridge Day?!? and if you find moldy cheese, take a slice off each side. The insides should still be good. Did you Know? Mold is common in cheese. Its part of what gives a particular cheese flavor and character. For example, the blue stuff in Blu Cheese is mold.

October 9 - World Egg Day - Aside from high cholesterol, eggs are a healthy food. High in nutrition, and low in fat, people all over the world enjoy eggs. And, they celebrate eggs on this day. Ways to celebrate World Egg Day:
First and foremost, eat some eggs today.
Learn more about the health benefits of eggs.
Have an Egg Hunt. Who says egg hunts are only at Easter!?
Hold a debate with the question: "Which came first, the chicken or the Egg?"
Have an Egg throwing contest. It's a big sport in Great Britain.
Read an eggy story to your child. We suggest reading "The Goose that Laid the Golden Egg"

October 10 - International Newspaper Carrier Day - This day commemorates the hiring of the very first newspaper carrier. Newspaper carriers date back to the early 1800s. On September 10, 1833, 10 year old Barney Flaherty became the first newspaper carrier. Benjamin Day, publisher of The New York Sun, hired Barney Flaherty to sell papers for his penny press. The only job requirement, was that he had to show that he could throw a newspaper into the bu shes.

October 10 - National Angel Food Cake Day - My FAVE!! a GREAT day it is to make an angel food cake. When I do not have much time I run to the store and buy a premade one out of the bakery, take it home and have fun with it. I cut it in layers and add yummies in between like pudding on one layer and preserves on another layer and then I top it with yummy whip cream. (I started doing this since my dad cannot have sugar - I would buy a sugar free angel food cake, sugar free pudding and sugar free preserves and this way he could enjoy some dessert with the rest of us!)
