I started my Etsy Career because ....I just cannot throw anything away! And so I recycle and having a shop on Etsy to sell my creations seemed like the perfect fit!
My husband and I have been scout leaders since we got married (almost 12 years now) and so our joint hobby is camping and hanging out in the woods learning together with the kids here of the fauna and flora of Florida - but when I am home I craft. always.

One day my mother-in-law gave me an old jewerly box. She said she would never do anything with the items in it. I opened that box and memories of yester-year flooded back and I did some on-line research and found out that because of sites like Etsy, with sellers promoting their vintage items and shows like Mad Men bringing the Style back in to the public's eye, it just felt right!
My father is retired Navy and I can remember so vividly when he was not at sea, he was home with us and watching TV. I was forever exposed to the world of the Rat Pack, Carol Burnett and The Lucy Show, old Hollywood movies, The Ed Sullivan Show, TV shows like Get Smart ~

The way women and men dressed, to me was ...the way it should be. I find myself, now, looking at the way women and men dress and ask myself: 'What happened?" and I feel as if we just got lazy. Because it is easier to throw on a pair of jeans and a t-shirt and say 'yeah, it's ok. that's how everyone else is dressing'....but OH! A Lady in a dress, with pumps and hair done up right - NICE; and a man in a suit, tie, shiny shoes - NICE and SEXY!
So I started my own Etsy Shop : Gentlemans Emporium, and now - if we are not camping and I am not crafting I spend time at flea markets, second hand shops, estate sales, etc. and researching my finds because..... I now feel that am doing my part to 'Bring THE REAL sexy back'!

yup. can't get my mojo going. i can get online and interact but that's about it. between losing my baby kitty and starting a new job within 2 days two weeks ago i am just not feeling it and if i do i don't have time or the energy. i know this will pass, thought it would sooner but in the mean time you guys are stuck with my silly postings. i thank you all for your kind words and for your understanding : ) in the meantime i will rock back and forth in this rut till i get enough energy to push out and carry on

Venice is home to one of the most famous Carnival celebrations in the world, in addition to one of the oldest. The Carnevale di Venezia) was first recorded in 1268. The subversive nature of the festival is reflected in the many laws created over the centuries attempting to restrict celebrations and often banning the wearing of masks.
Masks have always been a central feature of the Venetian carnival; traditionally people were allowed to wear them between the festival of Santo Stefano, at the start of the Carnival season, and midnight of Shrove Tuesday. As masks were also allowed during Ascension and from October 5 to Christmas, people could spend a large proportion of the year in disguise and hide their behavior from being known.
Mascherari, or Mask Makers, enjoyed a special position in society, with their own laws and their own guild. In 1797 Venice became part of the Austrian-held Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia when Napoleon signed the Treaty of Campo Formio. After the Austrians took control of the city on January 18, 1798, it fell into a decline that effectively brought Carnival celebrations to a halt for almost two centuries. Carnival was outlawed by Mussolini's Fascist government in the 1930s and 1940s. The founding of a modern mask shop in the 1980s helped bring about the revival of Carnival in Venice..................... and the celebrations continue!

Saying 'goodbye'

It's been a very hard week for me. My 'baby' has passed along. Mimi, a.k.a. Sushi, came to me as a kitten so tiny that I held her in the palm of my hand while I feed her baby formula from a bottle. She stayed with me all the time, even sitting on the bathtub ledge while I showered. She grew into a feisty young lady that, much like me, did not like being told what to do. We had a mutual understanding, she and I: she was boss and I was O.K. with that. And the other night I came home to chaos as everyone struggled with how to tell me what had happened - horrible. I could not understand why all this had happened. surreal. no. must be a bad dream. and now only 3 days later I am still having a very difficult time coming to grips with it all. I still see her in everything - her toys are here and there, her scratch box in the middle of the room and her hair is everywhere. She had a Buddy, and Buddy is still here: wondering where she went and what is wrong. Buddy and I are coping. I am positive that everyone else around think that I am exaggerating over a silly cat, a cat that no one else much liked but myself (even Buddy wasn't sure). This immense feelings of hurt will pass - I know this, I have been through this before. Only this time she was my baby, and saying goodbye just won't do.

I was recently reminded of why I started this blog: to help others like myself that are clueless in the how-to's of the Internet-tech world. Since starting, and throughout my searching and maneuvering in the things that I have learned I now find it easier and forget that it may not be easy to a beginner SO - on the topic of

Your Etsy Mini

What I do is open my Etsy in one tab and my blog in another tab. In your Etsy, go to the left hand side bar and under 'Promote' is a link for 'Etsy Mini', click on this and go to the link and make your mini based on the choices you are given (if you are creating this mini to go into your blog then you should keep in mind that usually any more than 2 columns will get run over because of the size of your side bar in the blogs). You want to copy the code for the javascript version (for use on personal websites and blogs). Copy the html code and then go back to your blog, under 'Customize' click on "Layout", then all you need to do is click on the box that says "Add a Gadget" to your side bar. Once clicked, just scroll down the listed widgets until you see the "HTML" box. Just copy and paste the Etsy mini html from your Etsy page, and click save.

In a nutshell, this will offer internet connectivity for many, separate from the primary internet connection. Huh? Ok, let’s say you own a coffee shop that offers free WiFi. That connection is not secure so it is vulnerable to hacking, Trojans, viruses and so forth. The guestgate solves that problem by assigning each user their own address…separate from yours! You use your own security measures and each user uses their own personal security measures. When that user disconnects from the guestgate, it frees up the address that was assigned. Do you have a WiFI at your home and when people come over they ask to get on your Internet connection? The same actions will be taken by the guestgate as described above. Your guests can surf without you having to worry!

December 6 - St. Nicholas Day - Saint Nicholas lived in Greece, just a couple hundred years after the birth of Christ. He became a priest, and later, a Bishop of the early Catholic Church. St. Nicholas was one to believe in the concept of giving up all personal belongings and following Christ and that is what he did and he was well known for giving to needy people, especially children.
The practice of hanging up stockings originated with Saint Nicholas. As the ancient legend goes, Saint Nicholas was known to throw small bags of gold coins into the open windows of poor homes. After one bag of gold fell into the stocking of a child, news got around. Children soon began hanging their stocking by their chimneys "in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there".
It wasn't until the 1800's that, in America, the spirit of St. Nicholas' life evolved into the creation of Santa Claus. Santa Claus evolved from the stories and legends of St. Nicholas. Santa Claus was kind and generous to children.

December 6 - Mitten Tree Day - Not to be confused with Kitten Tree Day, today was likely created by a grade school teacher. It's the perfect grade school craft project or story hour. And, the timing of this holiday in early December is perfect. Make a mitten tree today!

December 6 - Put on your own Shoes Day - not quite sure about this one today as opposed to all of the other days, but be happy in that fact that you are celebrating today with MILLIONS of others all in unity wearing our shoes. oh, happiness!

December 7 - International Civil Aviation Day - Created on December 7, 1944 in recognition of the International Civil Aviation Organization's 50th anniversary. In 1996, The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution recognizing December 7as International Civil Aviation Day since Civil air transportation is an important part of a country's infrastructure and transportation system. Take today to appreciate the civil air system in your country.

December 7 - Letter Writing Day - with all of our technology we just don't do this anymore. Take some time and write some letters, or how about Christmas cards to send to your friends and family.

December 7 - National Cotton Candy Day - The Cotton Candy machine was patented in 1899 by William Morrison and John C. Wharton. They brought it to the St. Louis World's Fair in 1904, where is was quite popular. Cotton Candy is a favorite at amusement parks, circuses, fairs, and sports venues. (although now a days you can go to your local *supercenter* and get some cotton candy in a tub)!

December 7 - Pearl Harbor Day - Pearl Harbor Day, commemorates the Japanese attack on the U.S. Naval base at Pearl Harbor. The attack began at dawn December 7, 1941. It crippled the U.S. Pacific Fleet, and caused the U.S. to enter World War II. During the attack at Pearl Harbor, over 2,400 American serviceman and 68 civilians were killed. Five of the eight battleships at Pearl Harbor were sunk or sinking, and virtually all ships were damaged. On Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, U.S. flags are to be flown at half staff. On December 8, 1941 President Franklin D. Roosevelt stated in a speech to Congress it was "..a day that will live in infamy". The U.S. then declared war on Japan.

December 8 - National Brownie Day - ..actually it should be Brownie and Milk day for you cannot have a brownie without a tall glass of milk! and I'm gonna!!

December 8 - Take it in the Ear Day - Not really sure about this one but you know the saying: if it's bigger than your elbow then don't stick it in your ear!!

December 9 - Christmas Card Day - Christmas Card Day, honors Sir Henry Cole (1818 - 1874) of England. Cole created the first commercial Christmas Card in 1843, so in case you haven't all ready: get those holiday greetings in the mail!!

December 9 - National Pastry Day - YUM, now that's my kinda day!! (have you noticed that all food days are "national"? I think everyone just likes eating :)

December 10 - Human Rights Day - The United Nations General Assembly created the first Human Rights Day on December 10, 1948. Since then, it day has been promoted annually by the UN, and by Human Rights groups around the world. Each year, the United Nations, establishes a new theme for the year.

December 12 - National Ding-a-Ling Day - Not THAT kind of ding-a-ling you Ding-A-Ling!! NOOOO - it means ring your bell ding-a-ling! Christmas Bells a ringin

December 12 - Poinsettia Day - Gorgeous, vibrant colors of the season in this beautiful creation, I think they are so pretty when they get to be big tallll plants, I wish I had that luck!
Poinsettia Day was pronounced as an Act of Congress in honor of Joel Roberts Poinsett, who died on December 12, 1851. Poinsett was the first Ambassador to Mexico who brought the plant back to his plantation in the U.S. He grew the plants in his Greenville, S.C. plantation and gave them out as gifts to friends. In Mexican folklore, there is a story of a little poor girl who had nothing to bring to church for Christmas. On her way to church, she picked some plants by the side of the road. As she entered the church, the ends of the leaves turned into bright, brilliant red flowers. You guessed it... Poinsettias

December 3 - National Roof over Your Head Day - Basically a day to take note of and appreciate the things that we DO have. Stop whining about that flat screen you didn't get because they were all out. Many people are on the streets without a home, now more than ever.

December 4 - Santa's' List Day - Santa's elves have been filing all year long and today is the big day when Santa reviews those 2 famous lists: the naughty list and the nice list. Let's hope I made it to the nice list (tired of getting coal )

In the early 1900's, many of the good people of America believed that alcohol was the root cause of many social ills in the country. Prohibition on a national scale, was promoted in part by the American Christian Women's Temperance Union. This movement grew in popularity. Ultimately, the United States Congress passed the 18th amendment on January 16, 1919. The 16th Amendment prohibited the manufacture, transportation, sale and consumption of alcohol.
The ban on alcohol did little to improve the social conditions of the country, or to reduce crime. Rather, crime increased as racketeers got into the the business of making and selling alcohol. The popularity of the 18th Amendment waned. More and more people and groups sought it's repeal.
Congress passed the 21st Amendment, effectively repealing the 18th Amendment. On December 5, 1933, the State of Utah voted it's approval of the 21st Amendment, achieving the 3/4 of states need to approve this amendment. Thus on this day, the 18th Amendment was formally repealed.

And if you Twitter then you can click your items and upload to your Twitter account!
